Opening balance - overdraught entry in Sage

Hi everyone, hope you are well.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with a new client please?

Their accounts have previously been done in excel and from April I want to set them up on Sage version 22.1.10.

I am confused how to enter the opening balance on their Barclays account as it is £-2791.19 (they are using their overdraught). Any suggestions appreciated?

Thanks

Sam

As you are NOT using an old sage where journals cannot be Bank reconciled, why not just enter the balance as a credit in the mix with the other (and therefore balancing journals) from the TB?

Although, I would pop in the reconciled balance as one figure (with notes annotating its the rec'd fig) and then enter the unreconciled transactions separately (you can eneter cheque numbers or whatever), so when you come to do the future Bank recs they will show in the usual bank rec screen and can be ticked off as they appear. Using this method you then have a mini TB for the Bank with some debit and some credit entries.

As ever - back it up before you do it so you can unravel it if it goes wrong, or try it in practice mode.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
